一、用作名词

1.[C,U]头脑，思路，精神

Her mind is filled with dreams of becoming a great actress. 她头脑里充满了当个大明星的梦想。

2.[U]注意力，心思

Keep your mind on your work. 把你的注意力放到工作上。

3.[U]记忆(力)

I can’t think where I’ve left my umbrella; my mind’s completely blank! 我想不起把伞丢在哪儿了，一点印象都没有！

4.[C]意见

We are of the same mind on this matter. 在这个问题上我们意见一致。

He is one of the great minds of the age. 他是这个时代的伟人。

◎change one’s mind 改变主意

I agreed at the time but later changed my mind. 我当时同意了，但后来又变了主意。

◎in one’s mind’s eye 在想象中，在记忆中

In my mind’s eye, I can still see the house where I was born. 我出生时的那所房子仍记忆犹新。

◎in two minds (about) (对…)拿不定主意，犹豫不决

I was in two minds about the book. 我说不清我是否喜欢这本书。

◎make up one’s mind 作出决定，下定决心

They’re both beautiful—I can’t make up my mind. 两人都很漂亮——我难以决定。

◎speak one’s mind 直言不讳

I will speak my mind. 我将说老实话。

◎to one’s mind 在某人看来

To my mind, he is too selfish. 依我看，他太自私了。

【用法提示】

1.汉语说“身心”，指的身体和精神。mind表示精神时，与body (身体)相对，所以汉语的“身心”说成英语是mind and body (或body and mind)：

The mind governs the body. 精神支配肉体。

mind表示智慧或理智时，与heart(情感)相对：

Follow your mind, not your heart. 办事凭理智，不要凭感情。

当mind指哲学上的精神时，与matte(物质)相对：

mind over matter 精神超越物质

2.以下各句中的mind均与特定动词或介词构成固定搭配，其中mind前习惯上不用物主代词或冠词：

I’ll keep [bear] your suggestion in mind. 我会记住你的建议的。

I know her face but I can’t bring [call] her name to mind. 她这个人我熟悉，但想不起她的名字了。
