问题：这是一个强调句，被强调成分为句中主语，因此应将宾格him改为主格he。

■14. and the people, who supported the free-soil policy and insisted that slavery must not expand one inch farther, were greatly increased in number.（第112页倒数第5-3行）

问题：根据上下文，这句话的主句应使用主动语态。

■15. With this daring, arresting novel Mrs. Stowe manifested how inseparable cruel exploitation came from slavery and how fundamentally irreconcilable were free and slave societies.（第113页第12-15行）

问题：这句话的宾语是两个how引导的从句。第一个how从句不知道作者要表达什么意思，但显然存在语法错误，第二个how从句语序错误，应将were放在句尾。这种单复数形式随意使用的情况，教材中多次出现。
