1. Yet we will surely find one element common to every reader’s expectations before examining a work of fiction. That is, the expectation that the work will tell a story.

Yet we will surely find one element common to every reader’s expectations before examining a work of fiction, that is, the expectation that the work will tell a story.

2. And yet, his novel has been regarded by many as one of the best war novels that has ever been written.(第3页)

【分析】定语从句that has ever been written修饰的应该是the best war novels,即先行词是复数,因此定语从句中的has 应该为have才符合英语语法。

3. The protagonist is an important figure at the center of the story’s action or the theme and whose conflict with an antagonist forms the central tension of a story.(第21页)

【分析】该句后半部分and whose conflict with an antagonist forms the central tension of a story显然不符合英语定语从句用法,应去掉and,并在whose前加逗号,处理成一个非限制性定语从句,即可作如下改进:The protagonist is an important figure at the center of the story’s action or the theme, whose conflict with an antagonist forms the central tension of a story.
