We’ll go there on foot instead by bus. 正:We’ll go there on foot instead of by bus. Will you go to the party instead of me? Let’s play cards instead of watching TV. The situation is better instead of worse. That increased instead of decreased our courage. He is the person who never tells a lie. 正:He is the last person to tell a lie. He’s the last person to trust with a secret. That is the last thing I should expect him to do. The B.B.C. are not often late for the news. 正:The B.B.C. are not often late with the news. 析:比较:be late for sth 做某事迟到(指到得迟),be late with 做某事做晚了(指做得迟)。 The BBC are not often late in broadcasting the news. 比较:We were late for supper. We were late with supper. I was just about to go to bed, suddenly the telephone rang. 正:I was just about to go to bed, when the telephone rang. 析:suddenly(突然)是副词,不能连接或引导句子。 Are you suggesting that I should not be suited for the job? 正:Are you suggesting that I’m not suited for the job? His wife suggested that he (should) give up smoking. What he said suggested that he was a cheat. I am not suggesting that the accident was your fault. Others suggest that they two will be equals. Whoever telephones, and tell them I’m out. 正:Whoever [=No matter who] telephones, tell them I’m out. She was very busy yesterday, otherwise she would come to the meeting. 正:She was very busy yesterday, otherwise she would have come to the meeting. (She was very busy yesterday)所表示的事实进行假设,相当于 if he had not been very busy yesterday,所以其后句子的谓语用虚拟语气(would+have+过去分词)。 78. I feel painful in my back. 正:I feel a pain in my back.(www.yygrammar.com) He is still in pain. Do you feel any pain? I am pained to see you living this way. He has painful eyes. Time permitted, I will go to the station to meet you. 正:Time permitting, I will go to the station to meet you. Let's go boating this afternoon, weather permitting. I'll go to the station to meet you if time permits. 80. He had a pleasant smile on his face. 正:He had a pleased smile on his face.(http://ask.yygrammar.com/) 析:a pleasant smile=令人满意的微笑或讨人喜欢的微笑,即人们见到这样的微笑会感到很舒服,比如商店服务员通常会面带a pleasant smile;而 a pleased smile=满意的微笑,即指人们因为自己感到满意而笑。 |
